Highclere Castle Gin Announced As Official Premium Gin Partner Of Newbury Racecourse

Crafted with botanicals sourced just seven miles from the racecourse, Highclere Castle Gin becomes first ever Official Premium Gin Partner

Newbury Racecourse is pleased to announce that Highclere Castle Gin are the first ever Official Premium Gin Partner of the Berkshire track. This new partnership will see the locally produced gin be served across all bars in the Hampshire and Berkshire stands as well as the Owners and Trainers facilities.

Launched in 2019, Highclere Castle Gin is made utilising botanicals sourced from the gardens of Highclere Castle and oats grown on the Estate farms, located just seven miles from Newbury Racecourse. The acclaimed Highclere Estate oats are a unique feature creating unparallel complexity, smoothness and unique flavour of the gin which has become one of the most awarded new gins in the USA. With a delicate balance of juniper, lime flower, orange peel and a touch of lavender, it is the true essence of Highclere’s historic estate. The same oats are also utilised in the Highclere Castle Horse Feeds, used by leading local Flat trainer Richard Hannon.

The new partnership will also see an expansion of Highclere Castle Gin’s race sponsorship at Newbury Racecourse. In addition to the existing sponsorship of the Listed Carnarvon Stakes on BoyleSports Lockinge Day on May 17, Highclere Castle Gin are to sponsor two handicap races on both July 10 and August 28. The Highclere Castle Gin Carnarvon Stakes, last year won by the Karl Burke trained Elite Status, is run over six furlongs for a total prize fund of £65,000. Through the growth of the Highclere Castle Gin’s sponsorship portfolio at Newbury Racecourse, the Class 5 handicap run over six furlongs with £11,000 on offer on July 10, as well the Class 4 handicap over 1m2f for a total prize fund of £14,000 on August 28, will both be renamed the Highclere Castle Gin Handicap. In addition, Highclere Castle Horse Feeds, which utilise oats grown on the Highclere Estate, will sponsor the Class 4 six-furlong contest on August 15 worth £12,000. The race will be run as the Highclere Castle Horse Feeds EBF Novice Stakes.

Lord Carnarvon commented on the expansion of Highclere Castle Gin’s partnership with Newbury Racecourse: “The Carnarvon family and Highclere Estate are delighted to be Newbury Racecourse’s Premium Gin Partner this year. We have a long history of supporting racing at Newbury, dating back to my great-grandfather, the 5th Earl’s involvement in the creation of the course in 1905, and my father’s tenure as Chairman from 1985-1998. During his tenure as Chairman he introduced the Carnarvon Stakes and the Super Sprint race—an event he won with his filly, Lyric Fantasy in 1992.”

Jordan Coates, Head of Sales at Newbury Racecourse, commented: “We are delighted to have our first ever Premium Gin Partner at Newbury Racecourse in Highclere Castle Gin. As a local family with a rich history and association with the Racecourse, we are pleased to be able to offer their award-winning gin to our racegoers. We look forward to working with the team at Highclere Castle Gin as our relationship continues to expand.”
