Twenty Go Forward For Group 1 BoyleSports Lockinge Stakes

Twenty top-class horses go forward for 2025 renewal of the BoyleSports Lockinge Stakes on Saturday May 17th

Following the latest scratching stage today, a host of top-class horses remain in contention for the 2025 renewal of the Group 1 BoyleSports Lockinge Stakes on Saturday, May 17. A total of 20 horses have stood their ground for the mile contest worth £400,000. This year’s renewal marks the first of a three-year sponsorship deal with Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker, BoyleSports.

The leading owner in the history of the race, Godolphin, is seeking a tenth victory and have two potential runners in last year’s 2,000 Guineas winner, Notable Speech, and recent Earl of Sefton Stakes runner up, Ottoman Fleet. The Charlie Appleby trained son of Sea The Stars was beaten by Persica in the Sefton Stakes, one of four horses who remain in contention trained by Richard Hannon. Others who hold entries by Hannon include new recruit Unquestionable, Irish 2,000 Guineas and 2024 St James’s Palace Stakes winner Rosallion and the Wathnan Racing owned Haatem, last seen finishing down the field in the bet365 Mile.

Sandown’s Group 2 contest was won convincingly by the Roger Teal trained Dancing Gemini, following up his success in the Listed Doncaster Mile Stakes. The four-year-old son of Camelot could seek to claim his first Group 1 victory in the feature race of Newbury’s Flat season. After a break of 188 days, Tamfana chased home Dancing Gemini in the bet365 mile to be beaten one-and-three-quarter lengths. Trained by David Menuisier, she remains in contention to claim a second Group 1 win after success in the Sun Chariot Stakes last season.

Other Group 1 winning mares who remain in the line up include the John and Thady Gosden trained winner of the Prix de l’Opera, Friendly Soul, last year’s 1,000 Guineas winner, Elmalka (R.Varian) and 2024 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner, Fallen Angel (K.Burke).

The next confirmation stage is on Monday, May 12, when supplementary entries can also be made for a fee of £20,000.
