Twenty-Seven Contenders Remain At The Confirmations Stage Of Coral Gold Cup
Twenty-seven contenders remain at the confirmations stage for the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday, 29th November. Worth £250,000 in total prize money, the 3m2f Premier Handicap stands as the feature race of Newbury’s National Hunt season.
Following her victory in the Grade 3 Paddy Power Gold Cup, Panic Attack is among those still entered, as connections consider a tilt at a notable big-race double. The nine-year-old landed the Cheltenham prize earlier this month and would face a quick turnaround, but with the Dan Skelton team in excellent form – and Tristan Durrell able to take 3lb off her 4lb penalty – she might well take her chance.
Skelton has also confirmed Riskintheground, who is likely to be ridden by his brother and stable jockey, Harry Skelton.
Meanwhile, Olly Murphy is set to be represented by second-season chaser, Resplendent Grey, who currently sits as joint-favourite at 6/1 with sponsors Coral, alongside Myretown, trained by Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore.
Other notable British contenders include Nicky Henderson’s Hyland and Venetia Williams’ Victtorino, who may return to Newbury after finishing third in last year’s race. Paul Nicholls now has a sole entry in Inch House, while Ben Pauling is also down to one potential contender Pic Roc.
In a bid to secure a second win in the race, the Jamie Snowden yard sends forward Ga Law and in the hope of following in his father’s footsteps, Joe Tizzard has confirmed The Changing Man.
The Irish challenge remains strong. Willie Mullins has put forward a team of four – Blizzard Of Oz, O’Moore Park, Spanish Harlem, and A Penny A Hundred. Other Irish competitors include Gordon Elliott’s Three Card Brag, Tom Gibney’s Intense Raffles, and Henry de Bromhead’s pair, Monty’s Star and Gorgeous Tom.
Cruz Control, Grandeur d’Ame, Katate Dori, The Doyen Chief, Ask Brewster, Lowry’s Bar, Perceval Legallois, Moon D’Orange and Annual Invictus complete the entries.
