Following the latest confirmation stage today, Eve Johnson-Houghton’s Royal Ascot winner, Havana Hurricane, remains in contention. Twice a winner over five furlongs, the 9,000gns yearling could seek to provide local trainer Johnson-Houghton with a first winner in the race. Runner up to Havana Hurricane at Goodwood, Logi Bear, is one of four who remain with entries from the Hannon yard. Richard Hannon Snr, who alongside Lord Carnarvon devised the concept for the Super Sprint, remains the leading trainer in the race with seven winners.
Other notable entries include the Karl Burke trained Ali Shuffle. A 32,000gns yearling, the daughter of A’Ali won her first three starts over five furlongs before finishing runner up to Moojeed in the Group 3 Prix du Bois Longines over six furlongs. Rod Millman has won the race twice previously with Bettys Hope in 2019 and Lord Kintyre in 1997, he could be represented this year by the Middleham Park owned Anthelia. Purchased for just £6,000, the daughter of Supremacy has already earned over £37,000 in prize money having won her first three starts including the Listed Sky Sports National Stakes. She may drop back in trip in the Super Sprint after a fifth place finish in the Listed Empress Fillies’ Stakes over six furlongs.
Jonathan Portman, who enjoyed a three-timer at Newbury last week, could saddle his Brockelsby runner up, Son of Sarabi, in Saturday’s contest for the Old Stoic Racing Club. Portman last won the race in 2016 with Mrs Danvers.
Declarations for the 32nd consecutive year of Weatherbys sponsorship of the Super Sprint are 10am on Thursday 17th July.
